HISTORY – It was bought new in Denver by an executive for Gates Rubber Co. The car must have been special-ordered by the first owner. Samoan Coral was a Thunderbird and Lincoln color (Mercury labeled it as Bittersweet, but same color code, “L”). Samoan Coral was promoted as a springtime special color, but my car was built a few months before this. It had 54,200 actual miles on it when I bought it in 2010 (seller was in Aurora, CO) and had spent the prior 15 years sitting in a garage – still had the Colorado inspection sticker with a 1996 expiration date. The car also still had Gates brand tires on it. Gates went out of the tire business in the early-1970s. Other items still on the car included the original spark plug wires and original shocks. There were two or three other owners between the first and me, one of which was the original owner’s maid. This car has been featured in Auto Restorer magazine and Ford Classics. My car was totaled in July 2023 when hit from behind. Mileage was then 79,025.
